Traccar Manager apps are the second highest priority. It includes geo-fencing, alerts, notifications and more sophisticated reporting system. The main priority on the project roadmap is to implement missing major features in Traccar server. What’s the roadmap for the project going forward? For example, some people donate VPS servers that are used now to host free demo service.ĥ. People can also add new languages via Transifex website. Localization - at the time of writing Traccar project includes 39 different languages and all of them require regular updates and maintenance. I always try my best to include those in the project. Pull requests - developers can send pull requests with new features or bug fixes and improvements. I don’t really use Traccar myself, so feedback from actual users is very valuable. Feedback - this is the easiest way to get involved in the project, but it’s also very important because it helps me to understand the needs of the customers. There are many ways people can help and support the project: What is the best way for people to get involved in the Traccar project? It would be nice to have more developers to help with the project, but it’s hard to find someone with enough skill, experience and free time to work on an open source project.Ĥ. The GPS tracking industry is growing as well, so it’s a very promising area. As I mentioned in my previous answer, I am the only official developer for Traccar project. It’s growing very fast especially last couple of years. How is the project going? How many people use the software, who are they? What is the feedback? I plan to keep project completely free and open source for the foreseeable future.ģ. The main goal of this project is to make a fully featured alternative to commercial tracking systems. Everyone is welcome to help adding or correcting translations via Transifex platform. One area where I get a lot of help from community is localization. Occasionally I get pull requests from Traccar users who want to share what they have implemented with community. It has a limited functionality at the moment, but the plan is to make it on par with web interface.Īs a single main developer on the project, I develop all above software on my own. It’s a native mobile alternative to the web app. Traccar Manager - mobile app for Android (iOS version if coming later this year). Basically it allows people to use their phones as tracking devices instead of buying a separate special hardware. Traccar Client - mobile app for Android and iOS that reports phone’s location to the server. Web app - web interface for managing GPS tracking devices, users, generating reports etc. It also includes embedded Jetty web server to provide API and serve web interface files. It contains modules to communicate with various GPS tracking devices, store data in the database, data filtering etc. Traccar Server - main piece of software. Traccar project contains several applications: What is the Traccar project? Who is behind it? What is the goal? At the moment my main job is a mobile developer and I mostly work on Android projects.Ģ. Up to this point Traccar was my side project, but my long term goal is to make it make main full time job. I started writing server code back in 2009 and then decided to make it open source in early 2010. I am the main developer of Traccar open source GPS tracking software. Who are you and what do you do? What got you into the geo space? And also to be in line with our intentions to launch sample UI Interfaces by Mid March 2018.Ĭontributions and Pull Requests are most welcome and will be given due credit. Our latest interview with open geo thought leaders is with Anton Tananaev, the lead developer of Traccar - a free and open source GPS tracking platform.ġ. We have a fully functional list of all API functions for Traccar, however we are re-working on the codes and improving them to accomodate new changes that has been implemented in Traccar.
